The Challenges of a Nigerian Digital Marketer
Being in Nigeria is a challenge on its own.
Nigeria is a “special” country, and one of the major issues in Nigeria is the poor power supply.
Yes, I had to discuss this first. The power supply in Nigeria is very unstable, and if you’re going to be a marketer, you need to be on your devices almost 24/7. So you might need an alternative source of power supply if you’re working from home. You could get solar panels with an inverter or a generator, but keep in mind that the cost of petrol or diesel could be doubled.
Studying and learning
If you don’t like research, you don’t like learning, or if you prefer stability and dislike change, please stay away from marketing for your peace of mind.
The digital space is fast-paced and you need to continuously learn new things. This can be mentally draining, but keep pushing.
Finding a worthy job or client
Sometimes, some clients might have unrealistic job descriptions for a particular role and then attach a ridiculous salary to the title. If you ever meet a client like this, try to state your opinions politely. Possibly show the client the normal expectations of the particular job role and the expected salary. If the client remains adamant, do what you think is best for you.
Either it’s internet data or information data, they expire fast and you have to renew consistently. Like I said before, the digital world is fast-paced. That’s why you need to regularly update your information database of your customers or audience. What interests them now? What is trending now? How much are they making now? And lots of other things to update.
Then for internet data, only God knows the kind of pipe the network providers are using to suck our data. Ensure you have a proper budget and a backup budget for data so that you don’t get stranded.
